To minimize the elder populations’ exposure to the coronavirus, the Salem Council on Aging has closed its center to the community. The daily meals the center usually offers is now being delivered directly to senior's homes. Council on Aging is looking for volunteers to drop off meal to seniors. If you are interested in being a shopper, please contact Kathy at [email protected]
Volunteers are paired up with a senior. Our social service team contacts the senior and lets them know who their shopper will be. Once that is done, we give you their contact information and you would work out the shopping day/time with the senior. We are asking seniors to make a list of their grocery needs on the outside of an envelope with the money/check inside. Volunteers are not expected to pay for these items. If you are interested in being a shopper, please contact Kathy at [email protected]
ROOT is preparing meals for seniors residing in Salem Housing Residences. The delivery process is being coordinated by Kerry Murphy of the City of Salem and Kelly Annese or JF&FS. They are delivering Monday through Friday from 11:30am-1:00pm each day. You do not have to sign up for a series of days, they will take one day or as many as you can give. Meals come in plastic bags and they are hanging them on pre-assigned doors, knocking and walking away. For additional information or to sign up to help, please contact Kelly Annese at 978 564-0773.
